Things can sometimes get heated in day to day life, but that doesn’t mean that you have to burst a blood vessel in the process. When you get hot under the collar, learn how to calm yourself down so that you don’t carry on the heated argument or situation for any longer than you have to. Stress is bad for your health, don’t you know?
It’s not hard to calm down when you get hot and bothered. The problem is usually that you don’t realize how stressed you really are until things come to a real head. Overwhelming sensations of stress and anger are a very common occurrence, but with a little help, you should be able to get it all under control.
Let’s go for a walk.
Sometimes the easiest thing to do when you are under a lot of pressure is to just go for a walk. Exercise helps to release happy endorphins which overcome your feelings of stress. It helps you to blow off steam too.
Let’s all take a breath now!
Sometimes all you need to do is just take that deep breath and walk away from the situation. Breathing exercises and deep breathing as a whole is almost a form of meditation and when you increase your oxygen intake, you are releasing physical tension.
Find your happy place.
Is there a place on the earth that you find tranquil and peaceful? Maybe it was that time on the beach in 1998? Whatever it is; wherever that place may be, go find it. Take the time to walk away from your stressful situation, head to a toilet cubicle or quiet office and remember that happy place you once found yourself at. When you imagine this place in your head, calming sensations will take over your body and this will release your mind from its angry demons.
Write that stuff down.
People often find release by writing down their problems, so why not try carrying a journal around with you and writing things down when it all gets too much? You could even start a blog about your life if you really wanted to get your thoughts and exasperations out there. It’s like sharing the problem with a friend – why not try giving it a go?
Last minute shots!
If you don’t have the time or the space to walk away or do any of the things mentioned above, you need a quick and “right-there” backup plan. Taking a sip of your cold drink can help – it gives you something else to focus on and the increase fluid will feel good to your body. Have a sugary treat – no one is angry when they have candy to eat. Again, it will give you something else to focus on. And if all else fails just scream!
