Moreno believe this is such a fun and unique punk haircut for a special event. “All women can rock this style, with lots of hairsprays,” she adds.
A Super Edgy Punk Hairstyle
@allison_hair
“This super edgy punk hairstyle was buzzed all around,” explains stylist Allison Shiffman of Staten Island, NY. “A heartbeat design was carved on the side using a trimmer. The top was razored for texture to give it an effortless punk style that can be achieved at home.”
This cut is extremely easy for a woman who wants to just style and go. Depending on your hair type, all you’d need to do is smooth your punk hair using a hairdryer and brush. For fine hair, you can add mousse before drying.
Shiffman notes, “a trick for extra volume or spikiness is drying the hair in the opposite direction you plan on wearing it, then take a pomade to rub it in your hands and push the locks back over using your fingers.”
If you have coarse curly hair, she says, “a flatiron might be necessary after drying. You can use a texture spray or dry shampoo on the roots to fluff it up and make it messier.”
Adding a hairspray will help keep your punk hair in place. The amount of volume on top and how you wear the front/bangs area can be adjusted to complement your face shape!
Hot Pink A-line Punk Hairstyle
@themarciek
This a-line punk hairstyle is edgy, youthful, and fun. It was created by stylist and colorist Marcie Kowalski of Jessup, MD.
“The color used in this photo is from the new Manic Panic Professional line. Punk rock is making a comeback, and Manic Panic, which was one of the first punk hair color companies has evolved as well. The placement of the hot pink dye is offset by the natural gray hairs on her head. It’s a fun blending of those three colors using slices and weaving techniques,” she explains.
She goes on to say, “fashion colors are super fun but also incredibly difficult to maintain. Pink hair is probably the most difficult. If you’re going to take the leap to fashion colors, just know you’ll potentially bleed on pillowcases and towels. Coldwater is key.”
70’s Punk Blue Mohawk
@missvintage82
This 70’s punk blue mohawk is edgy, alternative, and not for the faint-hearted. “The color works amazingly with alt girl hairstyles like this one,” says alternative barber Alexandra Karen of the UK.
This punk rock hair isn’t for women with very fine or fair hair, or with a round or oval face shape.
“Spiked hairstyles like this are more of the music-inspired mohawks from the late 70’s punk era. So if you’re into punk music, this would be perfect,” she states.
For styling, Karen suggests trying Swartzkopf Mowhawk Dust with an extra hold molding spray. “If you use wax, it can weigh down the Mohawk and it won’t stay in the style for long.”
Pinky Bob Punk Haircut
@goldi.locks.styling
This soft punk bob was handcrafted by apprentice stylist Chantelle Haines of Grande Prairie, AB. “The different shades of pink hair color and the soft layers, with the blunt perimeter, make this punk look the perfect transitional step to going full punk,” says Haines.
The versatility of this cut is amazing! You can wear this sleek and sophisticated or rock it out with some crazy texture and curl!
Haines says to try a smoothing balm and a strong-hold mousse. “The smoothing balm and mousse allow more control over those crazy strands!”
“Take a leap with a semi-permanent color and let your freak flag fly with confidence,” she adds.
Punk Rock for Straight Hair
@amber.cuttinup
Attitude meets style as you wear rock ‘n roll on your mane. Stylist Amber partnered a dark ginger hue to liven up straight hair with a skin shave.
Disconnected Mullet Punk Hairstyle
@_hairwitch_
“This modern mullet is very disconnected with tons of texture. It’s is a playful take on one of the most popular punk rock hairstyles from the 80s,” says hairstylist Corrie Sweat of Savannah, GA.
This style can fall into so many categories from whimsical and pixieish to rocker chic.
“This is definitely a more fashion-forward style of possible rocker hairstyles,” she adds. “It’s not just punks of the 80s that can pull this style off. A bold personality and aesthetic are required, too! The best thing about the modern mullet is that it works best when slightly unkempt, so not a lot of styling is required.”
At most, Sweat says to use a dry shampoo and texturing paste such as Aveda’s Control Paste or Verb’s Sea Texture Creme for a piecey, undone punk vibe.
Wild Thang Hairstyle with Shaved Sides for Punks
@ruthphillips.hairstylist
This wild thing hairstyle for punks is a disconnected haircut with shaved sides. It was created by independent stylist Ruth Phillips of Youngstown, OH. “It features a deep violet against the yellow, and of course, a hand-painted leopard pattern!”
For women considering punk haircuts, Phillips says to remember that this print can easily be cut out after your sides grow a bit to leave a fairly low commitment color.
“Conversely, if it’s something you’d like to keep long term, you will need to sit and have your color done and the pattern painted back on at each haircut, or possibly every other, depending on how much of the pattern is cut out,” she adds.
The Green Lantern Undercut Pixie Punk Hairstyle
@jaysonstylist
This undercut pixie is called the “The Green Lantern” of punk hairstyles. It was created by co-owner and stylist Jason Murray of Mill Valley, CA. “It features strong lines, texture, and the color makes it all pop,” he explains.
To pull off alt hairstyles, Murray reminds us there’s a lot of maintenance to keeping high fashion colors like green. “This means changing it up. Keeping it sharp is essential!”

@staygold31
Not as dangerous as it looks, spikes on your punk hair are exhilarating cool. Pair your spiky short hair with bold hair color and some visual undercut.
Pompadour Mohawk Punk Hairstyle
@studio_wolf
This pompadour mohawk was created by stylist Lindsay Wolf of Portland, OR. “The punk style features lots of height built up from the front all the way to the nape of the neck, with each side buzzed,” explains Wolf.
If you’re considering punk hair styles like this, it’s ideal for women with a strong bone structure and an oval face shape. “This punk hairstyle requires time for styling and a few amazing products, so it’s definitely not a low maintenance style,” she adds.
For styling, Wolf says to try Oribe Volumista Mist for volume. “Spray from your roots to the ends prior to blow drying with a small to medium round brush. Follow up with Oribe Superfine Strong Hairspray to lock in hold, then lightly mist with Oribe Shine Reflecting Spray for a glossy, glass-like finish. VoÃla!”

Messy Joan Jett Shag for Modern Day Punks
@cutxcolor
This is a classic Joan Jett shag for modern day punks that can be worn many ways. It was created by creative hair artist Brit Taddei of Beaverton, OR. “The versatility of this cut can be worn super messy and textured and styled very dramatically, or it can be kept simple and toned down while still having an edge,” she explains.
This punk cut can be accentuated with many color options as well, which makes it such a diverse and classic rock and roll haircut for women wanting to try something edgier.
“You definitely have to be bold to rock alternative hairstyles,” she adds. “This cut can be customized for any face shape. You can also wear it with or without a fringe. It also looks amazing on mid-length to long hair.”
Texture paste and volume boosters will be your friend while styling this hairstyle. Try Kevin Murphy Volume.Boost, Bedroom.Hair, and Night.Rider texture paste.
Recreated Mullet with Bangs Punk Hairstyle
@haircreations.bysophie
“This is a statement hairstyle that is not for the faint-hearted! The recreated mullet is back with more dramatic angles and texture in all the right places,” says creative hair artist Sophie Wilson of Sydney, AU.
“Blow dry in a volume cream for texture and shine. Once dry, spray in a salt mist and scrunch the hair for that gritty punk vibe. Lastly, use a matte wax to piece out and accentuate the alt style,” she explains.
This is so versatile and can be tailored to all women, but it would work best on a woman with medium to thick hair. It will flatter a heart, oval or diamond face shape.
“This cut is also nice for women with a large nose, as it draws attention away from it with the hard angles,” she adds. “It can also open up the face of punk rock women with small features.”
Deathhawk Hairstyle for Punk Girls
@daveyterror
This is a teased punk mohawk called “Deathhawk” hairstyle for punk girls. It was handcrafted by salon owner and stylist Crystal Terror of San Antonio, TX. “Punk hairstyles for long hair like this, aren’t just a fashion statement, they’re super punk rock.”
“Use Joico Cobalt/Peacock Green semi-permanent color and Pravana Neon Greens,” explains Terror. “For the shaved side, use a Wahls peanut trimmer. As for the style, it was backcombed and teased. The whole hawk was sprayed with Bedhead Masterpieces. Ask your stylist about hair gel that’s just as effective a for long-lasting hold.”
Women with medium to coarse textured hair are the easiest to tease into a wider mohawk style like the Deathhawk. It’s not a good idea to style fine/thinning hair like this. Most face shapes work with this style, too.
Blonde Punk With Style on Top
@hairtonomy
“This blonde cut could be described as punk with style, the grungy answer to a precision haircut,” says hairstylist Angel Indelicato of Philadelphia, PA. “It’s got some triangular shape with very choppy short layers. It looks great on naturally wavy hair.”
Indelicator says to try top products like Lanza’s Texture Spray, Puff Me Volumizing Powder, or even Kevin Murphy’s Rough.Rider are perfect for grunge hair. “You really need a dryer feeling, gritty product to get that hair to stand up and to provide the broken up texture in the ends,” she adds.
This short punk hairstyle works great on hair types between straight and wavy. You could go for it curly though! Depending on how you push this haircut around makes it more punk or more polished.
