1. Marvel’s The Avengers
This 2012 movie stars Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth and Scarlett Johansson. It brings together such “super heroes” like Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Hulk. These super hero’s join together as S.H.I.E.L.D, which is a “peacekeeping” organization that soon has to take down Loki, from subjugating the Earth. This movie brought in over a whopping six hundred and twenty three million dollars in 2012.
2. The Dark Knight Rises
This movie was released in July of 2012 and brought in over four hundred and forty eight million dollars in 2012. The Dark Knight stars Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Morgan Freeman. Once again, Bane tries to destroy Gotham City and batman is ready to take on his villains and stop them from destroying his city.
3. The Hunger Games
The Hunger Games became a huge success in 2012 with bringing in over four hundred and eight million dollars with one hundred fifty two million of that coming from the first week. This movie stars Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Stanley Tucci and Josh Hutcherson. A sister, Katniss Everdeen, takes her sisters place in the Hunger Games, which is a televised fight to the death with two teenagers from each of the twelve Districts pf Panem are chosen to complete.
4. Skyfall
Skyfall was a popular addition to the “James Bond” movies, which brought in just under three hundred million dollars in 2012. With it being the twenty-third James bond movie, it doesn’t look like this one will be the last, due to its high attention and popularity in 2012. This movie starred Daniel Craig as James Bond, Javier Bardem and Judy Dench as “M”.
5. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2
The highly anticipated saga to the Twilight franchises. It brought in just under three hundred million dollars with two hundred and ninety million dollars. Famous cast includes Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. Bella wakes up from her transformation from human to vampire, and to protect their identities, they must tell her dad, Charlie that she did not make it and died from an illness. So they move away from Forks Washington. With Jacob desperate not to lose his daughter, Renesmee, he tells her father that she is indeed alive.
6. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
This movie was surprisingly a huge success, with making two hundred and seventy eight million dollars, with eighty four million from that being its first weekend. A great fantasy movie is the first of a three-part film adaptation of “The Hobbit”, which is a 1937 novel by J.R.R. Tolkien.
7. The Amazing Spiderman
This movie is a reboot of Spiderman and is about how he turns into Spiderman, while in High School. The Amazing Spiderman stars Andrew Garfield as Spiderman and Emma Stone as his love interest, Gwen Stacy. The movie ended up making over two hundred and sixty million dollars, with sixty two million coming in the first weekend opening.
8. Brave
Disney’s “Brave” is a cute American computer-animated adventure fantasy that was produced by Pixar and distributed by Disney. The film features the voices of Kelly Macdonald, Julie Walters, Emma Thompson and Craig Ferguson. The film was set in Scottish Highlands and contains a mischievous Merida that is a very skilled archer. She accidentally curses her family and has to undo the spell herself before it gets too late for her to undo. The film brought in two hundred and thirty seven million dollars.
9. Ted
Ted earned a total of two hundred and eighteen million dollars with fifty four million being the opening weekend earnings. This hit movie features Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis and Seth Macfarlane as Ted. Ted is about a boy that wishes his only friend, a teddy bear, came to life. He next morning the little boy finds that he in fact, did turn into a real teddy bear that talks and becomes his friend forever. Not a movie for children.
10. Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted
Madagascar brought in two hundred and sixteen million dollars in 2012 and was very popular for a third installment of a movie. It was also the first Madagascar to be released in 3D. Madagascar still features the original cast of Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer and Jada Pinkett Smith. The crew, Alex, Marty, Melman and Gloria are still on a journey to get home to New York, however find themselves hitting Europe. They then join a traveling circus where they meet new friends along the way.
