How To Get Rid Of Bags Under Eyes

Bags, puffiness or dark circles under our eyes can make us look sickly, older than we should look and make us self-conscience. Whether you’re a mother who’s up with a newborn, a college kid studying for exams, you’re recovering from an illness or you just have genetics that force the bags upon you. These can be troublesome, annoying and we definitely want to get rid of them!

First step to removing these obnoxious dark circles is to figure out why you have them in the first place. This can be tricky considering you may not have a clue where to start. Once you figure out what’s causing the dark bags then you can start working to rid of them. The question is how do you find out?

Have you been having nasal congestion? Are you experiencing itchy, watery eyes? Do you find yourself sneezing a lot lately? To sum it up, would you say you have allergies? Allergies can cause inflammation when they set off histamines in your body and cause blood vessels to swell and cause fluid retention. Therefore, making the vessels more noticeable under the skin. If you think that your dark circles may be allergy related, take an antihistamine or put a tiny bit of hydro-cortisone cream under your eyes if they are itchy, as well. You can get these at your local drugstore, superstore or even have you doctor prescribe some.

Allergies not the issue? There’s many other reasons that would cause under eye problems. If you are getting older, you may notice your skin is getting thinner. It’s a natural part of the aging process and sometimes it’s preventable and sometimes it’s not. However, there is something to try to make them less noticeable when it comes to thin skin. Use a cream that will help the production of collagen increase and that will thicken the skin a bit more, making the bags less obvious.

Okay, so maybe you’re not anywhere near that point in age, but you still have the dark circles and don’t know what to do? Well, think about this: What are you eating? Yes, food has a lot to do with this. How could food and your under-eyes be related? What you eat has a lot of impact on what you look like. If you’re not taking in enough vitamins, like vitamin B12, or if you are not getting enough antioxidants and other such important nutrients. If you’re thinking that your diet may be a contributor just try to incorporate more green vegetables, fruits and drink a lot of water to keep fluid flowing well. If you cannot get enough of the vitamins you need then take a multivitamin everyday to help.

Are you spending a lot of time in the sun? Sun exposure can cause dark circles to be more prominent. This happens because UV rays increase the amount of melanin that your producing. This pigments the skin so that it gets darker. To prevent more damage from  happening, wear sunscreen outside, even in the winter or on a cloudy day (UV rays can get through almost anything!) or if you’re not a fan of sunscreen, buy a moisturizing facial/eye cream or lotion that has SPF in it to protect your skin.

Okay, so maybe you’ve got the sun thing covered… Don’t worry, there’s still plenty of things to try!

How much sleep are you getting a night? Sleep is important for the body. Getting a good nights rest will help from blood vessel swelling, fluid retention, stress on the skin, etc. Especially if you prop your head up with two pillows instead of one. That helps so that fluid doesn’t build up under your eyes and the fluid flow keeps flowing along smoothly.

Do you smoke? Smoking causes a lot of problems with the body, but it has a strong impact on the vascular system. This means that it’s affecting the blood vessels and is making them thicker, bluer and easier to see under the skin. Obviously, quitting smoking would be the best decision. If you decide not to quit at least cut back to help reduce the vascular problems a bit. Keep in mind that smoking can cause more than just prominent blood vessels when it comes to vascular problems. It can cause many more problems and some may even be extremely serious.

Trying these things out will, hopefully, help you to figure out why you have bags under your eyes and what you can do to finally say goodbye to them! If not, keep in mind, like I mentioned earlier, that genetics may be the culprit. If they are there may not be much you can do. Other options would include: Surgery, injections, eye-lifts, make-up such as concealer, getting the spot massaged or applying under eye creams may help, as well. Try putting chilled cucumbers, potatoes or tea-bags on your eyes for 5-10 minutes every morning and night. Doing this may help swelling go down and fluid circulation to improve.
