One of the best coffee drinks in the world is the beloved Frappuccino. But where did the deliciousness start? In Boston, to be exact. In 1994 Starbucks bought a small coffee shop chain called The Coffee Connection and coined the name from one of their blended coffee drinks. They then proceed to copyright the name Frappuccino and pretty much anything to do with it. Frappuccinos alone bring in well over 2 million dollars each year. Now they list around twenty five different frappuccinos on their menu. You’ve probably heard about the new unicorn frap that blew up in the world just recently. That’s just one of the frap options that they list out of two dozen others. You will really never tire of the different Starbucks frappuccinos there are.
However, today we are only going to show you how to make a simple copycat Starbucks frappuccino, that way you can enjoy some of the finer things in life in the comfort of your own home.
Making this mouth watering drink is not as difficult as it may seem.
Starbucks Frappuccino (Copycat) Recipe
Ingredients Needed:
- 16 oz of ice.
This recipe is for a 16 oz frappuccino, therefore you will need 16 oz of ice.
- 1 shot of espresso.
If you aren’t feeling the espresso, you can substitute with 1-2 tablespoons instant coffee or 2-4 tablespoons double strength brewed coffee.
- ¾ cup of milk.
You can use any substitute for milk that you’d like. You can even substitute the milk in this drink with one scoop of ice cream, ¾ cup sweetened condensed milk or ¾ cup heavy whipping cream.
- 2 tablespoons vanilla soft serve ice cream/vanilla smoothie mix.
Don’t have that available? That’s okay, you can use sweetened condensed milk, cream or ice cream in it’s place. Otherwise you can add ½ pack of vanilla pudding powder. Sometimes even 2 tablespoons of maple sugar will do the trick. It’s ultimately your choice which one you want to use. But remember to only pick one option! This acts as a thickener and it is what gives frappuccino their signature texture.
- Any other toppings you would like to add.
Directions:
Now to get to the fun part- Making the drink! You will be so glad you did after you try the first sip of this refreshing blended drink on a hot day.
Step #1.) Start by brewing some fresh coffee. Starbucks tends to use a very concentrated brew when creating this drink. They do that because it’s easy to blend a bitter coffee taste in a frap with its many other flavors. That is why people are welcome to use espresso if they choose, because the bitterness will be covered up and you’ll still get all that wonderful perks of espresso. Once the coffee is brewed, you will want to wait until it cools down to at least room temp. You can put it in the fridge and chill it instead if you would prefer.
Step #2.) Decide whether you want your ice blended or if you’d rather have your frap over ice. If you want it blended then go ahead and get out your blended. Put the fresh coffee or espresso into your blender and then put the rest of the ingredients needed in afterwards. Blend until until smooth. Want to go for the over ice option? If you picked this one, it means you can leave your blender alone. Just put ice into a container in which you will be able to shake or mix them altogether. Just stirring would work if you do it for a prolonged period of time. However, it’s much easier to blend if you shake it rapidly and with force. Put your ice in a cup and pour the mixed ingredients over.
