How would you describe this look?

What I love about this style is that it’s very trendy for women and girls of all ages. The style is a layered one-length cut with thick side swept bangs. The color is a titanium glaze over previously lightened hair.

Any advice for someone considering it?

If you are looking for this style, there are some things to consider. It took us about 12 to 16 hours of salon time to get her from a dark brown to blonde, with a bleach service from scalp to ends, then we glazed to get the beautiful color you see.

You will have routine maintenance and need to use salon quality shampoo, conditioner, and styling products to maintain the look. I think if you want to have some fun, go out and ask your stylist to make you trendy!

How would you describe this look?

This look is a bold, curly shag. Something that feels rock-n-roll but also soft and feminine.

What I definitely love about this look is the curly bangs that suit anyone and everyone. Also, I love how confident and pro-curl she looks.

Any advice for someone considering it?

This look is extremely low maintenance. The grow out is great and can even be pushed longer with bang trims. Easy to style by pushing all of the hair forward, pushing the curl in, adding a styling cream (Hairstory Hair Balm is my go-to) and either air-drying or drying with a diffuser for more curl and volume. Wonderful on almost any wave or curl type. Curl On!

How would you describe this look?

This is a chic long bob with bangs. It’s the style and how her fringe blends with her hair that I love the most. I slide cut a long “V” for her fringe, then I blow dried her fringe forward and to the side to define the side swept.

Any advice for someone considering it?

It requires blow drying, curling the hair, and going into the salon for maintenance every 5-7 weeks. As far as how I styled, I blow dried with a medium-size round brush, sprayed Oribe’s Maximista spray, and curled with a one-inch curler to finish this look. Finally, I sprayed a medium hairspray Oribe’s superfine hairspray.

How would you describe this look?

This look is a modern take on a classic cut. The lob has been my favorite cut for a while now due to its versatility.

I cut this with a razor to get soft interior layers and weight removal which will enhance the natural wave and movement in the hair. My client Claudia can blow this out sleek, air dry, and use a round brush.

Any advice for someone considering it?

This cut works best on medium-thick, straight-wavy hair. If you have curly hair and don’t want to blow it out then I wouldn’t recommend this cut. You must have a texture product to achieve this look. I used R+Co Sail.

When blown out, spray on dry hair and let it go, otherwise spray on damp hair and let it air dry. It’s a great length for women who don’t want long hair but still like the option of being able to pull their hair back.

How would you describe this look?

What I love the most about this look are the naturally curl bangs! You can embrace natural curls and show them off in a fun way. For being so effortless, they make a big statement.

Any advice for someone considering it?

Ask your stylist to cut your bangs on the long side because we all know how much curly hair bounces. Also, styling product is key. You need a good curl cream that will de-frizz hair while also holding the curls in place. It should look soft to the touch, and not crunchy.

How would you describe this look?

This is a long angled bob with some messy textured waves. We also used Redken’s awesome color fusion line to give a beautiful bold vibrant shade which can easily be refreshed with Redken Shades EQ gloss when needed.

Any advice for someone considering it?

This look is good for someone who is aware of the upkeep of a fringe. Typically they need a trim every 4 weeks. I’d say if you live an active lifestyle, this cut is great because it’s a sassy shape but the length is still there to put your hair in a low to mid ponytail if you need to! It’s great for someone with fine, flat hair that needs some volume and texture!

Straight Bangs for Thick Hair

How would you describe this look?

What I love about this look is the entire 60’s vibe of the short blunt fringe and bright red hair. My client and I worked together to create something that looked natural on her but still stood out and matched her personality! I love redheads, especially the “natural” ones!

Any advice for someone considering it?

This length of hair is fairly low maintenance. It doesn’t have a lot of layers so it’s perfect for someone with fine hair that wants to create an appearance of fullness. Of course, this can be modified for other types of hair!

Always make sure, if you do have colored hair, that you are using a color safe shampoo and conditioner! (I highly recommend the Wella Brilliance line). Start your styling with a heat protecting product, like the Nioxin Therm Activ spray, and blow dry smooth with a brush or blow dry and flat iron.

The fringe will require some styling with either a round brush or flat paddle brush, and blow dryer. Very quick and convenient if you wear your hair up a lot or are busy and on the go!

Pro tip* Always start with a blow drying a fringe with wet or damp hair, you don’t want to let it dry before you start.

Blow dry pushing hair side to side with a paddle brush for a more natural look. Or with a round brush, blow-dry in an upwards motion, lifting the fringe on top of the brush to create more of a bouncy look.

Finish the ends with a serum (my favorite is Eufora beautifying serum) and some hairspray of choice!

How would you describe this look?

My guest told me to have fun with this look and I did just that! We freshened up her highlights and added a brighter fringe area while still maintaining a somewhat rooty look to her blonde.

For her haircut, I used a razor to achieve an effortlessly sleek haircut. This cut will be so easy for her to style on her own.

Any advice for someone considering it?

This style can work with most hair types. Women with thicker hair will definitely need more time for styling though. With finer hair, if cut right, this can truly be effortless. A little hand over direction while using your blow dryer will have this cut falling right into place.

I used an invisible layering technique that adds shorter pieces into the layers to give my guest fullness and texture! Looks great straight and/or with a beachy wave!

How would you describe this look?

It’s a really fun and easy summery look. It has long layers that blend in really well and the bangs are my favorite because it adds that extra eye-catching piece to the face and draws attention to the eyes at that length.

Any advice for someone considering it?

For bangs, especially if it’s your first time having them, I always suggest to comb down and style the bangs first and foremost before you style the rest of the hair.

Since the pieces are a lot shorter than the rest of the hair and the hairline can be tricky to maneuver, it’s best to control the hair before it dries.

As for the rest of the hair, long layers are super easy and manageable for any sort of lifestyle! They are so versatile with styling, regardless of hair texture, density, color, etc.

How would you describe this look?

This is a medium length cut with long layers and a long side bang. Some cool toned balayaged highlights were added to her natural color for a soft pop of color.

I love the ease of this cut. You can wear it straight or curled, and the color will require very minimal maintenance!

Any advice for someone considering it?

This cut is great for fine hair. The longer side bang is a nice length for those who need some movement around the face but still want a bit of a carefree look.

Adding a volumizing mousse or spray all over before blow drying and using a heat protectant before your wand or iron will help hold this style all day.

How would you describe this look?

This is a short honey blonde textured bob with a soft curtain fringe.

The best thing about this cut has to be the fringe or bangs as some people call them. I am a child of the 80’s but should have been born a decade sooner, as I love 70’s fashion! The curtain fringe is a modern homage to 70’s icons like Farrah Fawcett and Stevie Nicks.

Any advice for someone considering it?

The length of this cut is very versatile. It gives the illusion of thickness to hair that lacks density. For someone with thicker hair, the addition of short layers can make this length very fun while removing weight.

The curtain fringe really steals the show here because it draws your attention to the eye/cheek area and slightly widens the face creating a more diamond shape. This cut will work best for round or oval faces but can be tailored to suit other face shapes. The versatility of styling is limitless.

Curling with a bit of texturizing paste gives a fun beachy, lived-in look, or you can do a sleek blow out style for an evening event. This style is perfect for someone who leads an active lifestyle because it’s short enough to keep styling time down but not so short that it lacks personality and versatility.

Perfect with Glasses and Bangs

How would you describe this look?

This cut is an asymmetrical, blunt bob. By blunt, I mean having sharp lines with no layers.

It is edgy, yet sophisticated. My favorite thing about this cut is the way the sharp lines accentuate different features of the face.

She was originally concerned about the roundness in her face. Keeping this in mind, I cut the shorter side at a length that directs your eye to the bottom of her cheek and the inward slope of her chin.

This makes you completely look past any roundness she may have. Putting long straight hair on the other side reduces all roundness as well.

Any advice for someone considering it?

Consider the shape. This style can be worn by many different hair types.

Curly/wavy hair will expand this shape more, making it appear more triangular. The straighter the hair, the less triangular it looks. Since this shape has no layers, it makes the hair heavier, reducing volume at the scalp.

This cut will hold its shape for a very long time and pretty much style itself.

How would you describe this look?

This look is definitely a more dramatic version of a modern shag. Her hair color is natural, so I felt like that allowed me to push the haircut’s shape a little further. I was able to create enough shape and movement with my razor, so hand-styling with a diffuser and a weighty cream was very simple.

Any advice for someone considering it?

Since this haircut is a definite “look”, it needs to be on someone very confident. It’s heavily layered around the face which really opens up her cheekbones, and the bangs really frame her eyes nicely. It’s a super low maintenance haircut which can air dry on it’s own or be quickly hand-styled by squeezing a cream into the hair to bring out natural wave pattern, while diffusing on low speed. It’s definitely a wake-up and go, confident “cool girl” hair.

How would you describe this look?

I love lobs. My client wanted something different and easy to style, so I brightened her up with some blonde highlights and gave her a youthful lob. With this lob, I gave her soft textured layers to blend and create movement.

Any advice for someone considering it?

Lobs are great for just about anyone. If you want something different and current but doesn’t want to lose any or much length, then the lob is almost always my suggestion. Lobs are versatile!

Texture is huge for me! If you have wavy, thick, fine, coarse, or curly hair, you can almost always make the lob work. Face shape is important to consider while customizing the lob. Texturizing to the overall look you are going for is what it’s about. That’s where you create the individual cut.

Kenra Taffy and Sabastion hairspray are my besties. I love all products, but these two, are my go too. It’s imprortant to use a good product that you trust to help you define and create the look on a daily basis.

How would you describe this look?

Curtain bangs are everywhere right now and I just love how they can the perfect accent to almost any cut. I paired her soft bangs with a classic square bob that just barely sweeps her shoulders. To enhance the transition from her bangs to her bob, I created a bend in the hair just at the cheekbone with my flat iron.

Any advice for someone considering it?

I love this look for straight to wavy hair. If you have cowlicks in the front, just blow dry your bangs from side to side, when they are soaking wet to break the wave. If your hair is thick, adding layers will add lightness and texture to your bob.

Keeping your hair all one length works with most face shapes, but if your face is round or you need some elongation, ask for your cut to be slightly longer in the front.

I just wanted a simple wave for this look, but it would look so cute with loose curls or shiny and sleek!

I would describe this hairstyle as a textured long shag. My favorite aspect of this cut is most definitely the bangs. They lay so effortlessly and pull the entire style together!

Straight Hair with Blunt Bangs

Q&A with style creator, Jenessa Acosta

How would you describe this look?

I would describe this look as chic and sophisticated with a little edge. I gave her a blunt statement bang with a texturized short to long bob.

My favorite thing about this haircut is that there is a perfect blend of a classic bang and bob, but with texturized edginess. It’s the best of both worlds.

Any advice for someone considering it?

When it comes to bangs and a bob, there is a lot to discuss. The first thing to keep in mind when making the decision to get bangs or not is your face shape. When you have a long face like my client’s, a bang can help reduce the overall face length.

If you have a round face, the perfect bob length for you would be below the chin, keeping all the hair the same length on the sides of the face to make the eyes and cheekbones pop.

Both a bang and short bob require more styling than usual, especially if you have a natural cowlick that interferes with your bangs. If you have time out of your day to commit to styling your hair, this haircut can help make any outfit look extra chic.

To style, I sprayed Milbon Volume Thickening Mist in when the hair was wet. After I dried and waved her hair, I sprayed Oribe Gold Lust Dry Shampoo onto the roots of her bangs to prevent any greasiness. I finished off with L’Oréal Professional Next Day Hair Dry Finishing Spray throughout all of the hair to add more volume and texture.

How would you describe this look?

Longer bangs allow for a bold change for anyone who wants a completely different look without losing too much length. Adding texture and allowing them to dust the eyebrows makes them flirty and more “grown-up” while drawing attention to the eyes.

Any advice for someone considering it?

Long layers that fall just past the shoulders mixed with a good styling product allow the natural texture of the hair to hold most of the style.

I have found curtain bangs look best when blow dried without too much fuss. Rough drying them straight down allows them to look smooth while not compromising any cowlicks. This way they separate easily to frame the eyes. These bangs look killer on someone with a heart-shaped face!

Mid-Length Haircut with Bangs

Q&A with style creator, Tina Malhotra

How would you describe this look?

This a medium length style that falls past the collarbone. I love how this haircut elongates her round face to give the illusion of a more oval shape, and I also love how the blunt bangs frame her look.

A lot of my clients who are growing out lobs/shorter styles love when their length reaches this phase.

Any advice for someone considering it?

My client’s hair is fine and naturally straight. To achieve this style, I used the Medium Texture Paste by Davines to prep the hair while wet. I blow dried her hair with a large round brush in large sections to add volume at the roots. I kept the bangs straight and blunt, but set the rest of her hair with a 1 1/4-inch barrel curling iron to add some waves. Next, I lightly sprayed the curls with Davines Dry Texture Spray to help her fine hair hold the waves without making it sticky. Using a wide-tooth tortoise comb, I gently broke up the waves to give it some playfulness and texture. To finish the look, I misted the hair with a light, flexible hairspray and shook it out.

My client is a mom to a toddler, so her lifestyle can be unpredictable! This style not only complements her face shape and haircut, but it also has a lived-in look so she can maintain this blowout with no effort.

Medium Hair with Side Swept Bangs

Q&A with style creator, Erika
Hairstylist @ Magnum Opus Salon in Portland, OR

How would you describe this look?

Glamorous practicality! The brighter bang and face frame add a halo of sass, while the one-length lob gives her hair a thicker appearance. Styling is simpler because this look can be smoothed or curled without taking a ton of time. The length is also long enough to pull back for those early morning workouts!

My favorite part would have to be the bangs. They can be so versatile and change the entire feel of the haircut depending on how they’re styled. I believe there’s no right or wrong in styling your bangs. Just have fun!

Any advice for someone considering it?

When it comes the lob cut, why not? It’s easily pulled back into a ponytail, decreases blow dry and styling time, and looks good on almost everyone. My favorite texture of hair for this look would have to be straight or wavy with a fine to medium density. The cut creates fullness without being too heavy, and with the right texturizing products, it can be transformed into a sexy beach wave style. I love Oribe’s Dry Texture spray!

If you’re looking to keep your style low maintenance, I suggest keeping the bangs longer and side-swept. If you like something a bit more statement-making, then the straight-across bangs are great. Bangs have come a long way from your elementary school DIY bang days! Make sure to do some research when deciding which style of bangs you would prefer.

Life Hack – Wet and blow dry only your bangs on day two hair to refresh your entire look in only a few minutes!

How would you describe this look?

I love the contrast between the Bettie Bang and the shaggy layers in this lob. The bangs are my favorite. I used neck trimmers to cut them to make them crisp and blunt.

Any advice for someone considering it?

This cut is easier to style than you may think. The only part that needs to be blow dried is the bang! Air dry the rest of the hair with something like R+Co’s Wave Spray to encourage beachy texture, then refine a few pieces with a curling iron if needed for more separation.

Bronde Shag

53 Medium Hairstyles With Bangs: Our Latest Faves! @accomando

Q&A with style creator, Lindsay Accomando
Hair Artist / Owner @ Accomando Hair in Roanoke, VA

How would you describe this look?

Not only is this look timeless (think Brigitte Bardot), but it can be worn straight or wavy. My model has “swavy” (slightly wavy) hair, so if she isn’t in the mood to blow dry it, she can totally rock her natural beachy texture. Thank goodness the shag trend is back!

Any advice for someone considering it?

I decided to dry cut her hair first so I could utilize her natural texture and snip the dry ends before applying any lightener. I then applied teasy lights in the Mohawk section with Pulp Riot Blonde AF + 10 volume and Brazilian Bond Builder. I balayaged the sides and a few pieces in the back with Paul Mitchell Skylights w/ 25 volume, and finished with 30 volume + Brazilian Bond Builder. I used plastic wrap for separation and to keep the product wet for extra lift. She processed for about 20 minutes.

We then shampooed, towel dried, and applied a root smudge w/ 10grams of 7.18 with double Keune Semi Activator, 13grams of 10.7 + 2 grams 9.1 + 2 grams of Grey + 3 grams of Clear with double Keune Semi Activator before processing for another 20 minutes. The second formula after the root smudge was applied to the mid-shaft to ends.

Next, we shampooed, conditioned, towel dried, over-directed her face frame, and shaped things up with a feather razor. I applied IGK Call Time for thermal protection and IGK Trust Fund for volume, then I round brushed with my favorite Olivia Garden Ceramic + Ion Brushes.

This hairstyle is great for wavy, curly or straight hair. You can rock it in its natural state or give yourself a voluminous blowout. If someone is considering bangs, they definitely need to know how high maintenance they can be. I recommend this style for more of an oval shaped face, but you can adjust it accordingly to better suit other shapes.

Edgy Shaggy Cut with Blunt Bangs

53 Medium Hairstyles With Bangs: Our Latest Faves! @samanthaaa737

Q&A with style creator, Samantha Hamilton
Master Stylist @ Pure Rituals Salon in Buchanan, MI

How would you describe this look?

I would describe this look as everyday edgy. The full bangs and blunt cut add a sense of edge, yet it is wearable for every day.

Precise color placement highlights specific facial features, and that’s what I love about balayage. It’s truly amazing and makes it personalized for each guest!

Any advice for someone considering it?

If a guest is considering this look, I suggest finding which length of cut and bangs would work best for them. Think of what features they want to draw attention to. I think a collarbone length bob is flattering on most women, while bangs can really shape your face. Whether you choose a heavy bang or a wispy bang, make sure to discuss which shape of bangs would most flatter you with your stylist.

Once you’ve established the cut, then you can decide which color would best suit the cut. Cut and color should always complement each other. Balayage is a great technique to complement almost any cut because your stylist can place color to accent points of the cut.

Styling comes easy with this cut. You can add a cute topknot for a quick look while the bangs keep it classy. My favorite is adding some texture to the hair with loose waves. Try styling with a 1 1/4-inch barrel iron, alternating directions of the curls. Finish with a dry shampoo to add texture for an airy, lived-in look. Spray with a light hold hairspray and you are all set!

Collarbone Length Bob with Fringe

53 Medium Hairstyles With Bangs: Our Latest Faves! @kaitlinjhair

Q&A with style creator, Kaitlin Jorgenson
Stylist @ Scott J. Aveda Salon in Brooklyn Heights, NY

How would you describe this look?

I would describe this look as collarbone length lob with a blunt fringe or baby bangs. Her haircut is slightly angled from the back to the front which helps the hair fall well over her shoulders.

I love this look for so many of my guests because of the versatility it has. My guest in the photo has wavy that air drys well, but she also likes to add curl or straighten it on occasion. This haircut works well for all of those looks. I added some light layering for movement through the haircut so that no matter what look she chooses, it will be easy to style and effortless to wear.

Another great thing about this style is how with small tweaks, it can be customized for many face shapes and hair types. Your stylist could add more of an angle through the length, you could adjust the fringe to be shorter or longer, or maybe add more texture for less of a blunt effect. These short baby bangs work great for someone with an oval face and could be kept longer for more of a long face.

Any advice for someone considering it?

I have so many guests interested in a fringe this season and it’s the perfect time to take the plunge! With the addition of a fringe to your new look, sometimes blow drying that area of your hair to smooth out any growth patterns or textures is necessary, and you want to keep your hair protected and healthy!

To achieve this look, I styled her with Aveda Smooth Infusion Style Prep Smoother. It’s a perfect lightweight leave-in styling product with wheat protein for heat protection, and it also contains aloe, maize, and tapioca for a smooth, shiny result with up to 12 hours of humidity defense!

To create a wavier finish, I love to spray damp hair with Aveda’s Texture Tonic, blow dry, then take large sections wrap them loosely around a curling iron or wand for a natural wavy look.

If you want this look but have wavy or curly hair, you’re in luck! This can be a great low maintenance cut for you also. Depending on how curly your hair is, your stylist may choose to add more layering so you avoid the dreaded triangle look, and maybe leave your fringe a little longer. Style with Be Curly Style Prep and air dry or diffuse for your new favorite look!

Face Framing Bangs

How would you describe this look and what is your favorite thing about it?

This style is very on trend at the moment. It is great for those clients who are wanting a sexy textured style with some soft bangs to really change up their look!

My favorite thing about this style is the face framing. It gives you a pop of lightness with very little maintenance.

What products do you recommend to maintain and recreate this look?

To recreate this look, I recommend spraying Wella Professional’s Sugar Lift onto the root and mid-length area to give some extra body at the roots, followed by a pump of Wella Professional’s Flow Form to help prevent any frizziness, but also protect the hair from any damage caused by heat styling.

Create waves and texture using your desired hot tool, shake the hair out with hands or a wide tooth comb and spray some Ocean Spritz to give your waves hold and definition.

What type of client would you recommend this look for?

This style is flattering for most people as you can change the length of your bangs according to what you’re wanting to highlight. For example, if you’re wanting to enhance your eyes, cut your bangs just below eyebrow level. If you’re wanting to enhance your cheekbones, ask your stylist to cut your bangs around cheek level.

This look can also be worn straight or wavy. This style is so great because there are so many options to suit anyone!

Blowout with Bangs and Layers

Q&A with style creator, Saina Sarafian
Stylist & Hair Extension Specialist @ Medulla & Co. in Toronto, ON

How would you describe this look and what is your favorite thing about it?

I would describe this look as a nice healthy blowout. It’s very effortless and wearable for any occasion, any time of the day. It’s definitely a look you can wear throughout the week, from the office to going out for dinner with some girlfriends.

My favorite thing about it would have to be the body and shine because it gives the hair a healthy glow and finish.

What products do you recommend to maintain and recreate this look?

To create this look, I used TO 112 Hair Cream on damp hair. This is a beautiful blowout cream as it really fights away the frizz. I finished the blowout and sealed the cuticles with the TO112 Hair Serum. A nice tip is to add a drop of serum from mid-length to ends every other day to keep your hair from looking dry.

What type of client would you recommend this look for?

This is a very versatile look that suits almost everyone. I do this cut on my clients who have wavy/curly hair. You can’t tell from the picture, but it’s actually disconnected. When you have a client who likes to wear their natural hair, the cut is extremely important. This cut ensures you DON’T get that triangle shape!

This is also a beautiful cut for clients who like a lot of layers and volume. This suits face shapes such as oval, square, round or heart!
