Most of youngsters wearing the newest fashion these days probably wouldn’t remember Lynda Carter (Wonder Woman) or even Dale Evens. The crop tops have been around since the late 30’s and were seen often in the 1940’s, although the trend didn’t stay around for long, the crop top has made an appearance in almost every decade.
Even Marilyn Monroe was seen in crop tops. Madonna brought it back in the 1980’s, and in the late 90’s a few actresses/singers were seen wearing them here and there. Even Britney Spears wore a crop top in 1999, and now they are back in style in 2015. Even if you don’t have the flattest stomach, you can still wear a crop top, just pair the right crop style top with the right high-waist bottoms and you can join in on this back in style top too.
The crop top is a versatile staple that should be in every summer wardrobe, and with its rich history over the last almost 80+ years, it’s definitely a fun look that is becoming a timeless trend.
- Peasant style.
Kendall Jenner
Speaking of Madonna, her lacey see-through white top, with a white bra is stylish and back in style. Wear it with some high-waist booty shorts, or a mini skirt. If you don’t want a lace top, try a cropped peasant top instead with puffy shoulders, this is a good alternative to a lace top.
- Retro look.
Taylor Swift
Consider trying high-waist square cut shorts, plaid or solid colors, it’s a nice throw back to the 1950’s housewife era when they were in style back then… Add a wrap around your hair, and high heels, and you’ll be rocking that crop top in no time. Don’t forget to add some red lipstick.
- Wedding dress.
Are you getting married? They even have a crop top wedding dresses in a variety of styles, lace and other fabrics to choose from. If you really love your crop tops, you can find one to suit your summer wedding now. This would even work for a bustier/wider hipped girl – use a crop top that is shoulder less with no sleeves and pair it with a pencil style skirt (with or without flair at the bottom)
- Sneak peek.
Danielle Armstrong
For larger breasted/hipped women, try high waist pants or jeans, with just a sliver of tummy/skin showing. Pair it with a large bag, a big over-jacket, and your dainty flash of skin will be the perfect contrast. Make sure you use more feminine looking shoes to pull this look off.
- Rise and shine.
Dakota Fanning
Match a shiny mini skirt, with a looser-style crop top that is either sleeveless, or covers your shoulders and arms. Add a wrap, some jewelry and a pretty up-do for your hair, and you’ll be ready to hit up the clubs and dance until you drop.
- Funky.
Pair a big fur-lined jacket with a hood with grunge style black pants that have slits all up and down the legs, with a crop top. Pair it with a fun hat, a variety of shoes, although since the jacket and crop top are feminine, and the pants should be tight, you could wear more utilitarian style shoes. (Such as black work boots.)
- With overalls.
Selena Gomez
Try some leopard print sandals or high heels, short over-alls in a variety of colors and a crop top shirt underneath. If you aren’t into over-alls, you can try some daisy dukes and wear a flannel patterned crop top tied-shirt instead.
- Monochromatic.

Pick a flattering style top to complement your shoulders and bust size. Wear your hair down to draw attention to your top half and some comfortable pumps, and you’ll be ready to rock the crop top too. Avoid prints for your crop top, but consider darker blues, purples, or other shades that work with your skin tone, for your skirt, black works well (avoid shiny colors or sequins) because it has a slimming effect that works well with this style of outfit .
- Versatile.
Kate Hudson
A graphic t-shirt style crop top works well with hats, jeans, boots, jean jackets, leather jackets, or even leather skirts and pants. You can pair it with a variety of shoe and jewelry choices, making graphic crop tops ideal for every day and casual wear. You could pair it with a hippie skirt and sandals to switch it up once in a while, or for a more beach look, a long flowing peasant skirt and sun-hat with sunglasses.
- Cheerleader.
The cheerleader crop top look is always a fun look and works well with your hair down, a pony tail, or pigtails. Add in some knee high socks and either a mini skirt, or some boxer-brief style shorts, and we have a winner.
